Members from the UJA-Federation of New York were down at the F-E-G-S Health and Human Services System in Copiague, handing out the first of over 150 specially made baskets to support those in need this Thanksgiving. The baskets are full of various items that have been donated over the last few weeks. These items consist of anything that someone might need to creat a Thanksgiving meal for their family. Everything from stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, turkeys, and even items for clean up such as paper towels were piled into the baskets by volunteers both young and older.
We talked to some of those receiving the baskets as they could not express enough as to how grateful they are to be receiving these gifts. These are families that are struggling to support their families during the holidays, and the baskets served as a sign of hope. It was inspiring to see the results of the effort put forth by the UJA-Federation, and by the diversity of the volunteers who gave their time.
