The other day I covered a story about a steady decrease in overall crime within the past 5 years in Suffolk County. These stats were surprising to me, and to some Suffolk residents, because crime rates usually increase when there’s a bad economy. Steve Levy, the county exec and police commissioner Richard Dormer, say there has been a 12% drop in aggravated assault and a 10% reduction in robberies in just the past year alone.
They also say about 150 gang members were arrested this past year and over 100 more officers are patrolling the streets of Suffolk County since Levy took office.
Although these stats are surprising, I’m not complaining!
